Bio

Peter Thomas King (born April 5, 1944) is an American politician serving as the U.S. Representative for New York's 2nd congressional district since 2013. A member of the Republican Party, King is currently in his 14th term in Congress, having served since 1993. He represents a South Shore Long Island district that includes parts of Nassau County and Suffolk County and was previously numbered as the 3rd congressional district. King was formerly Chair of the House Committee on Homeland Security, where he drew attention in early 2011 for holding hearings on the extent of radicalization of American Muslims. He stepped down as Homeland Security Chairman because of Republican conference term limits, but remains a member of the Committee. On November 11, 2019, King announced he would not seek re-election in the 2020 elections and will retire after his current term expires. King resigned from the Financial Services Committee on January 15, 2020. King previously served on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
