Bio

Abigail Anne Davis Spanberger (ne Davis; born August 7, 1979) is an American Democratic politician and retired diversity strategist and federal civil servant from the Commonwealth of Virginia who has served as the Representative for Virginia's 7th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives since 2019. The congressional district is centered on the Richmond metropolitan area (RMA). It includes all of Amelia, Goochland, Louisa, Nottoway, and Powhatan counties in the RMA; parts of Chesterfield and Henrico counties in the RMA; all of Culpeper County in the Washington metropolitan area (WMA); part of Spotsylvania County in the WMA; and all of Orange County in the Piedmont region. Before running for Congress, Spanberger served in the federal civil service as an inspector for the United States Postal Inspection Service and as an operations officer for the Central Intelligence Agency before joining the private sector where she worked as a diversity strategist for education consulting firm EAB. Spanberger defeated Republican incumbent Dave Brat in 2018, and she is running for a second term in 2020.
